⋘Although every track found on SLAB's second full length album "Megafaunal Genocide" is absolutely destructive from start to finish, I must say the reasoning behind choosing "The Nihilist" for this compilation is simple; in my humble opinion it is the band's best track, exhibiting all of their best characteristics and abilities as songwriters as well as a cohesive unit of brutal progressive metal.

Recorded in 2010 at Hellfire Studios at it’s new location in the heart of Birmingham, again with the indomitable Ajeet Gill handling recording and production, ‘Megafaunal Genocide’ is a marked step up for the band. In term of musicality it is more complex, more ferocious and definitely ploughs it’s own unique path by mixing styles and techniques with scant regard for genre or traditional song-writing methods.

Also, whilst not being a concept album per se it does have a conceptual thread running through it, of man’s continual exploitation and destruction of the natural world and of his own kind.

Artwork on both album packages was designed by Purdeep Singh and with ‘Megafaunal..’ the artwork really brings the album concepts to visceral life.⋙

Since 2005 SLAB have been creating their own particular home brew of metal, hardcore and punk. The band have released 2 albums, 'Betray the Past.. Infect the Future' (Meltdown, 2008) and Megafaunal Genocide (self-released, 2010) and played over 300 gigs across the UK, Ireland, Malta and Mainland Europe. This constant gigging has won over fans from both metal/rock and punk/hardcore audiences.. SLAB seem to fit in nowhere yet everywhere! Currently writing for their 3rd album SLAB show no sign of slowing down.

SLAB were conceived in 2005 by cousins Big Jim Fletcher and Andy 'Kimbo' Kimberley (Bass and drums respectively), and guitarist/vocalist Jake Cowing. Combining many different styles and influences whilst still trying to focus on good songwriting the 'power-trio' have managed to win fans from both metal/rock and punk/hardcore audiences. This may be due not only to the ever-changing song styles but also to the hard roadwork the band have put in, earning fans up and down the UK, Ireland and as far afield as Malta.

With over 300 gigs played in the bands relatively short history, SLAB are a major force to be reckoned with in the live arena. SLAB released 'Betray the Past.. Infect the future' in 2008 through Meltdown Records to critical and fan acclaim.
