⋘Although NAILS has been a band since late 2008/early 2009, it wasn't until their breakout album "Unsilent Death" was released in 2010 through Southern Lord Records that the band went from being a virtual unknown to a massively significant player in the world of extreme metal. That year, "Unsilent Death" finished at or near the top of many insider "best of" lists, and I don't think I personally read a poor review of the LP anywhere at all, regardless of publication! A rarity, indeed, to have an album met with such universal praise and honor; however, it is not as though the fan and critics' opinions were unjustified. "Unsilent Death" was the best hardcore record to be released in a very long time.
Fast forward to the early spring of 2013; some of the hype from NAILS' Southern Lord debut died down, but the band has come back in an even MORE major way with the release of their second album from SOUTHERN LORD RECORDS; "Abandon All Hope". For as absolutely amazing as "Unsilent Death" is, "Abandon All Hope" elevates the band in every manner possible. This time around, the original hardcore-based sound has elements of grindcore, crust, d-beat, and even occasional hints of black metal & death metal influence. This is thus far one of the best albums released in 2013 and I seriously doubt many others will come anywhere close to its intensity. NAILS has proven themselves as much more than a band capable of writing one great album and then fading away. From the looks of it, fans should expect these guys to continue to evolve and become better & better as the years pass.⋙

Little is known about extreme sonic terrorists Nails (and that's the way they like it) save that the trio hails from Southern California and consists of vocalist/guitarist Todd Jones (ex-Terror, Betrayed, Carry On, Snake Eyes, Internal Affairs), bassist John Gianelli, and drummer Taylor Young, and that their music takes hardcore to its illogically extreme conclusion (beyond grindcore, crustcore, etc.). So limited is the band's appeal, in fact, that their first two albums (if you can call them that, seeing as their ultra-brief songs add up to a mere 15-minutes in length, each), 2009's Obscene Humanity and 2010's Unsilent Death, were both issued in limited runs of 1,000 copies, before the latter gained wider distribution through a Southern Lord reissue. A third album, the hyper-intense and ultra-compact Abandon All Life, arrived on the label in 2013.
