Terminator 2 - Ancestralcide

about

⋘"Ancestralcide" is one of the eight insane songs that make up TERMINATOR 2's debut release - which I would say is a full length given the nature and length of the tracks. Known by the name "PART 1" (and available in a free "unmastered" format, along with a mastered version for $5 via bandcamp), this is truly a work of art and a test in endurance and patience for many listeners. It's been a while since a band such as this has come around; genuinely unique awesomeness right here! Their label (HANDMADE BIRDS) had the following to state about the record:

We know what you’re thinking: 1) This is the greatest band name of all time. and 2) They must have Schwartzenegger motifs throughout the album.

The first assumption is undoubtedly true. The second is not. In fact, what you will find as you attempt to read the custom printed lyric scroll before the music completely melts your skull and you become blinded by your own flesh, is an extremely academic, sociologically informed narrative on what drives us and what plagues us. As the juxtaposition of a sleek custom laser cut black slip cover against a Bosch-period sliver of a classic Matthias Grunewald suggests, the old and new converge to challenge our perspective of a dark human journey.

The aforementioned lyrical content is woven within a blisteringly raw wall of sound, a recipe that is one part stringed instrument (David Saylor- bass + vocals), and two parts pummeling fortitude delivered with the nuance of masters (Rob Buttrum of renowned noise resort House of Tinnitus and operator of Out-Of-Body Records contributes a unique blend of electronics, and Ben Scott serves bed and breakfast on the drum kit). In other words, if you were listening to your favorite bass driven classic hardcore record at full volume and a UFO landed on your face, you might at least be prepared to listen to this album.⋙

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ BAND BIOGRAPHY & INFORMATION ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

"For those of you who may be unacquainted with the raw, sludgy, noise driven behemoth that is Terminator 2, then you are missing out on one of the most innovative debuts to grace the year 2013. Blending drum and bass progressions amidst screeching frequencies and scathing vocal prowess, this is a band that will destroy speakers, minds, and expectations.

The opening moments of the album paint a stark portrait of innocuous drum and bass driven melody that lulls into a false sense of security just before dropping the hammer to unleash a torrent of inexplicable noise. However, beneath that torrent is an intellectually structured sociological narrative clashing old and new cultures alike to create an account of mankind’s dark history. Of course this may often be missed by the fact that your skull may be rend in several pieces by the laser-like precision that carries over into the totality of the album itself. Creating a heavy-as-fuck vibe that draws you into an atmosphere that visually resembles a horde of cavemen aboard an alien spacecraft experimenting with base level sounds.

It is that very same raw quality that personifies the entirety of the A side of this album, alongside the exquisite cavalcade of bass climbs and freestyle licks that pound their way into affluent ritualistic drumming with just enough strange atmospheric samples to keep it interesting. David Saylor’s grimacing vocals creep throughout each individual track as the thickening brood is resonated and deepened throughout.

To me, B side is the standout of the album, and showcase more vocals, more rhythm, and a sulking distributive property that displays a different dynamic from an already highly diversified debut. The foreboding danger that this band builds is unlike any other, weaving writhing movements of such eloquent raw emotion across an oblivionesque soundscape.

This is not an album that will be easily digested by most, but rather it is the quality of being enveloped by the sound that this band creates that makes this self titled debut so enjoyable."

lyrics

Murder the race. Murder the concept of babylon’s past of deceit. Destroy the foundation upon which is seated a structural schism ingrained is erased. Myth of creation. Dead ancient language. Superior alien race descended from heaven, confusing the masses into a turbulent state. Enter police. Murder the masters. Perish the thought that man is the master race. Nothing is sacred, nowhere is safe. Nobody’s god is a saint of the earth. Slave to traditional ancestral worship. Order the dogs to obey. Self-proclaimed savior imagines a spaceship sent as a means of escape from the earth.
