Lead Farmer - Dead Heroes

from Sociopathic Mixtape, Vol. 5 by Various Artists

/

about

⋘"Dead Heroes" comes directly off "BORN TO GRIND", the debut release by Pennsylvania weirdo, groovy grinders LEAD FARMER. The full length debut came out as the first-ever release by PA-based label BORN OF CHAOS RECORDS, on December 25, 2009! That's right; this monster of a record came out on motherfucking Christmas Day; there are millions of people who would find it horrendously offensive if they only knew about an obscure band such as LEAD FARMER!⋙

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ BAND BIOGRAPHY & INFORMATION ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Lead Farmer, formed in 2008, is the Premiere extreme metal band from Parkesburg, P.A. With attitude and aggression reminiscent of old school D.I.Y. bands that is equal parts death metal anger, grindcore chaos, and a thick Pantera-esque groove. Lead Farmer (which is pronounced Led not Leed) gives us a fresh take on extreme metal in a sea of cookie cutter bands.

The band is anchored by longtime friends and musical giants Bill (guitar) and Barry (bass), who use their instruments to speak a language all their own (if you have the opportunity to see them live, you'll be hanging on every word). Their front man, who goes by Freak, is a heavy metal madman who will remind you of a slightly more audible, yet no less pissed off Chris Barnes. Replacing original drummer Dave (who appears on their "Noise Pollution" demo and their debut full-length "Born to Grind") is a Peruvian Witch Doctor named Henan, a master skins-man who lends some semblance of order (but not too much, he comes to us from the Peruvian Grindcore band Narkan) to Bill and Barry's fequent dives into complete anarchy.

While Lead Farmer offers us plenty of hooks, each one is attached to a running chainsaw! In other words, you won't find any rapping, or ballads, or bullshit here, just out-and-out aggresion. With influences ranging from death, grindcore, thrash, hardcore, and stoner metal, there is sure to be a little something for all of headbanging's faithful followers.

While countless bands deliver predictable, uninspired, soulless dribble for the masses, Lead Farmer gives us something new and exciting to look forward to in the extreme music genre.

BORN OF CHAOS RECORDS OFFICIAL BIO:

"At Born Of Chaos Records we love Heavy Metal! We have to to be willing to put all the time, money and effort out there that it requires to bring this ass kicking, head banging, shit stomping music to all of you maniacs! So, our mission is clear: we want to be the best underground metal label in existance!

That is a bold statement especially with all of the amazing labels fighting it out in the pits right now, but if your aren't aiming for the top you're settling for the bottom. That being said, we seek out only the best in Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Grindcore, Black Metal, Hardcore and Sludge Metal.

Aside from being the best and making our bands the best our goal at Born Of Chaos Records is to bring the bands and the fans together again. To re-unite the underground metal scene. We have seen many a show where the bands, who may only live a few miles from each other and play a very similar style, don't even know about each other. Where fans of a band will clear-out the second their band gets off stage, and to tell ya the truth, it makes us sick! People talk about our home base, the greater Philadelphia metal scene, and call it dead. Well it sure isn't for lack of bands, fans or venues that will let them play. So what the hell is going on? It's because no one is supporting each other anymore. Everyone has become too fragmented to even bother to stick around and check out your brothers and sisters in the next band on stage.

Why? We all know the economy sucks and shit is tight, so if you already paid full price to see your buddies band, why not make a night of it? Most of my favorite bands I discovered on accident. If you get stuck in the mindset of "that's too black metal" or "thrash is so eighties" or "nu metal is bullshit" you might just miss something you would have loved. Society judges us and looks down on us all equally, they don't care whether your preference is Carcass, Motorhead, Six Feet Under, Iron Maiden, Slayer or Static-X you are all the same low-lifes to them. So lets get together, stop being so stuck up and remember why we are into this music. To have fun, rock the f*ck out and because the mainstream sucks and is absolutely clueless about what good music is!"

[...a word from Mike at SSR...]

We normally don't post full biographies of labels involved with the mixtape series, and although I personally never gave much thought as to why it immediately became 'the norm' when writing up these band pages, after reading the aforementioned 'mission statement' (some would call it a rant, but you all know how much I love to make those myself....case in point!) I immediately realized there are two main reasons;

The first is simple: many of the bands featured on the compilations have no label representation whatsoever - sometimes even if one of their albums/EPs is technically stamped with a label logo (meaning the band felt they could not distribute their release properly or as effectively as a representative to do it for them; this goes for marketing the album, too). The acts who are signed to labels are, in my estimate, nine out of ten times working with an indie metal/hardcore representative of the community - say, Willowtip, Hydra Head, Selfmadegod, Kaotoxin, Give Praise, Obscene Extreme, and so forth. These may not qualify as being "big" when compared to something like pop or rap music, but in our world these and others are pretty big players (each one named can account for at least a couple of CLASSIC extreme metal releases, if not more). Thus, when it comes to including label info along with this type of informational page for each band, direct links (and many of them if they're available) seem viable and fair enough - purchase links for merch, music, pre-orders and more are always included, of course.

Semi-related is my second instance of reasoning insofar as not feeling the need to post full label bios; the 'bigger' players are only considered successful because they've been around long enough to establish themselves as respectable, trustable labels amongst the community of metal fans. Please understand it is NOT my intention to write off or diminish any successful label's accomplishments or the fact they have managed to build a lasting legacy whilst maintaining a dedicated following of fans who eagerly await the next release! Clearly, countless metal labels have risen up and then fallen to ashes over the years, never to be heard from again after perhaps one release or in some cases twenty releases; it is that very fact which proves beyond any doubt the successful labels don't simply utilize time to their advantage, they also have been at the right place at the right time, they've impressively formulated solid business plans & marketing tactics which the metal public believed in / bought into, and generally any bigger, more successful indie label has an amazing team coordinating with one another as well as the artists on their rosters - getting their bands on the right opening slots, and so forth....

Nevertheless- to get to my original point, once a label, which we cannot forget are almost always meant to be BUSINESSES in addition to crucial aspects of the metal community, reaches new heights and levels of success, their business plan needs to evolve with the shifting nature of the company itself. What I'm trying to say here is if you go back and read the bio for BORN OF CHAOS RECORDS, you'll see that their mission statement is nearly identical to ours, still completely focused on the bands and music first, trying to reconnect a broken scene, expressing frustration over a lack of cohesion and unity, of brotherhood and sisterhood - they used an example I've personally witnessed a hundred or more times. A bunch of people come to see just ONE or two bands on a lineup of four to six bands in a night, and the moment who they came to see leave the stage, many individuals will likewise leave the venue, not sticking around to check out the other bands. To support the other bands, even if they're not necessarily your preferred style.

Perhaps only a few of you will recall what precisely we had asserted our mission statement as back in June of 2012, but I can tell you it mirrored essentially every word 'uttered' by BORN OF CHAOS RECORDS, who also happen to be a D.I.Y. start-up indie label from the Philadelphia area (Coatesville is approximately 45 minutes outside of the city, though with bad traffic it could take quite a bit longer). I want to take this opportunity to thank the people over at Born Of Chaos for allowing us to use this track by LEAD FARMER, coming off of the label's first offering to the public ever! July 30 is around the corner and our first official offering (discounting the mixtapes of course) will be behind us after that point!

Here's hoping to a long, successful, storied relationship between two labels with identical mindsets who also happen to conveniently be situated within an hour or less apart!! I'm stoked to have found you guys, because in all honesty I had no idea Born of Chaos existed until I accidentally came across their bandcamp about two days ago!

Well, I've ranted long enough.....but this was a super special case! For those still reading, I guarantee you'll see some awesome stuff be done jointly between SSR and BOC sooner than later!!!!

GRIND THE FUCK ON!!!!
