Nervecide - Fractal Flood

from Sociopathic Mixtape, Vol. 5 by Various Artists

/

about

⋘If you're familiar with previous editions of the Sociopathic Mixtape Series, then it should be fairly clear to you by now that we're enormous fans of one-man extreme metal bands, especially the ones specializing in the composition of relentless, fast-as-fuck grindcore. On that note, enter: Giorgio Benedetti & his new project NERVECIDE!

After spending a number of years as the guitarist for Italian death metal act Cadaveric Crematorium (www.cadaveric.it), Giorgio took off onto his own path, opting to compose, arrange, and perform on every instrument as well as vocals for what would become "IMPERMANENCE", the 10-track debut effort under his new project Nervecide. While the entire album is phenomenal and impressive, "Fractal Flood" is the song we felt fit perfectly with the overall mood & tone of SOCIOPATHIC MIXTAPE, VOL. 5! ⋙

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ BAND BIOGRAPHY & INFORMATION ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

Cadaveric Crematorium formed in Brescia, Lombardy (Italy) sometime in 1996 after a considerable amount of frustration was experienced due to constant lineup changes before the outfit could begin writing any material whatsoever. Even after having been around for a while, the death metallers continued to watch different individuals walk in and out of the band. It is unclear at which point precisely Giorgio entered Cadaveric Crematorium as a lead guitarist, but what we do know is he spent at least several years (if not longer) with the act [note: the reason for this uncertainty is simple....anyone involved with Cadaveric Crematorium would come up with a "brutal" or "metal" type name as opposed to using their own, so it's difficult to connect Giorgio to one].

What we do know is NERVECIDE was first formed in 2011, after Giorgio decided to venture off on his own in an attempt to utilize his multi-faceted skills as a musician - not being limited to merely one instrument, but rather composing, arranging, writing, and recording everything on his own. According to his own words, as stated on Facebook & other social media sites, the object of Nervecide is to "create music which takes inspiration from the extreme edges of the world of sound"; clearly meaning death metal, grindcore, technical metal, sludge, industrial, hardcore, and other varying sub genres.

However, it also seems that at some point Benedetti grew frustrated with the traditional music industry; a paradigm he views as unnecessary in this day and age, a time when technological advancements have made it much simpler for underground artists to write, record, release, and promote their music without going through a record label or distributor. Granted, musicians must keep in mind that going down this route of complete independence likewise means a lot more work needs to be done, a great deal more effort needs to be made - but the rewards are great if goals are accomplished.

On that note, Benedetti decided to release "Impermanence" freely through Bandcamp at the "Name Your Own Price" model on March 21, 2013; the record has received a lot of attention from the underground extreme metal scene and for damn good reason - it is undeniably the work of a masterful musician, his capabilities far outreaching many of his contemporaries. Even the lyrical content seems to be a few steps ahead of many metal bands today; focusing on various perceptions of reality, being formulated according to deeply philosophical questions - some of the most essential inquiries the human mind has ever made.

TORN FLESH RECORDS, our favorite net label (and one we have spoken of in the past), picked up "Impermanence" and made it their 'spotlight album of the week' recently. This doesn't come as much of a surprise given Benedetti's goal of straying far from traditional music industry structures. We here at Sociopathic Sound Records are happy to help spread the good word about Nervecide and are honored to feature one of the best tracks off of "Impermanence" on Volume 5.

lyrics

Surrounded by unrest
Everlasting storm of bodiless
Needles which pierce our
Perceptions
Receptors stretched-out
Deforming what we conceive
What make reality sense
Dragged down and nailed
Losing sensory capacity
Anesthetized nerves
Remote control, stick into the head
Manipulated words are
Reflecting of summaries
You choose to inject in your brain
Conditioned thoughts by what you think
You're free to decide to
Filter while you are just a dried-up spore
A whirling mass of
Flesh drawing in this cold
Self chosen fractal flood
