about
⋘The song "Malformed Breed" can be found on ART 238's debut full length, entitled "EMPIRE OF THE ATOM: A SCIENTERRIFIC TALE", which saw an original street date sometime in 2007 through OPEN GRAVE RECORDS. Until literally July 7, 2013, none of the group's releases were available anywhere except for iTunes, surprising as that may sound (the full length & one single can be purchased through that service, though it's named slightly differently, going by the moniker "EMPIRE OF THE ATOM: A SCIENTIFIC TALE", the reasoning behind this is not something explainable by us...).
The band literally fell off the extreme metal map entirely after the release of the aforementioned record after playing a handful of shows and doing a bit of promotion & marketing with the help of the label they were signed to at the time. But, it didn't take long for them to disappear, and disappear in a rather comprehensive manner. In this day and age when digital media cannot be found on the internet (even if finding it means being a professional web searcher who has the ability, knowledge, & experience to weed through all of the nonsense during the search for something immensely obscure/unknown/largely or wholly unavailable)......well, it almost always means the band you're seeking out has almost definitely broken up, went their separate ways, and some of them likely never bothered with music again ---- it's happened a thousand times over with underground artists, metal or otherwise.
Then, suddenly and out of the blue - as if fate does indeed possess a sense of irony - shortly after The Sociopathic Team had decided on utilizing "Malformed Breed" for Vol. 5 of our compilations, the band went from having virtually no social media presence (prior to July 2013, a VERY out of date myspace page was it!) to creating their first-ever Facebook profile and uploading the entirety of their back catalogue onto a bandcamp page that also never existed before. To make matters even better and more intriguing, all three of the releases up on BC are offered at absolutely no cost for those who cannot afford a small, helpful donation or supporting the band at this time in some other way.
I, for one, am certainly glad this killer cybergrind/noise/insane band is back, if that is indeed the case which all signs point towards.⋙

What do you get when you mix brutal grinding death metal with industrial and electronics? You get Art 238 from Cherbourg, France. The band was formed in late 2000 by bassist and vocalist Morg, and guitarist Psychotenia. Preferring to go by anonymous nicknames, and wearing costumes in photos and on stage, they would be the main stays of the group, with other members joining as necessary.
They would perform their first live shows with artists such as Dawn of Sorrow, Orion, and Horde of Zombie. Ex Drangsalymir guitarist Ienedegouez would join the band for Art 238’s first self produced demo, which was entitled The irradiated mutants from nuclear hell”. This would be released in September of 2002, along with 2 tracks for the “A l`ouest 2” metal compilation. In 2003, they would perform at the metal festival of the same name, sharing the stage with various local and national acts from the area.
In August, Ienedegouez would part ways with the band, and be replaced by Phage from Dawn of Sorrow, along with various other members at different times. In 2004 a new song was recorded by Art 238 for the “Pur Jus” compilation. At this point, Phage and the other members of the band parted ways, leaving Morg and Psychotenia to keep Art 238 alive, and evolve their music. They didn’t let personnel issues drag them down however, as they quickly released another 3 song demo entitled “Guaranteeing peace or prophet of war?”.
In 2006 the group recorded a split with “A Kodak Moment”, brought on drummer/sampler Dr Isotope, and were taken interest in and signed by Open Grave Records. Their debut full length followed shortly thereafter but then the band all but disappeared into the darkness and obscurity of an over-saturated metal scene.
