Hollow Tongue - Mind Rot

from Sociopathic Mixtape, Vol. 5 by Various Artists

about

⋘Written during the fall & winter of 2012, then recorded in January 2013 at Homewrecker Studios, chaotic hardcore/grind band HOLLOW TONGUE released their debut full length album "GODSNAKES" on March 7th via Bandcamp; "Mind Rot" is one of twelve songs in total that make up the astounding effort. A limited edition run of 100 cassettes were made by HEADFIRST RECORDS in time for the band's spring/summer tour; there's a link below to purchase one, if any are still up for grabs (I'm not a cassette-guy personally, I'm hoping the band releases their album on LP soon!).

"Godsnakes" is up for grabs for just two bucks at the HOLLOW TONGUE bandcamp page; go immediately listen to the entirety of the album in streaming format and there's no doubt you'll be making the purchase afterwards!! One of the best albums of 2013, a definite contender now and I bet at the end of the year, too.

ADDITIONAL NOTES ON "GODSNAKES":

◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ BAND BIOGRAPHY & INFORMATION ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊ ◊

From the ashes of Albuquerque, New Mexico-based hardcore group ATLAS (atlas1.bandcamp.com), who played their final show ever on June 17, 2012, arose a much more intense & impressive band by the name HOLLOW TONGUE! Whereas over the course of their 4 year existence (2008 - 2012), ATLAS' music came to be described as "beautifully intense", the same cannot be said about HOLLOW TONGUE, not even a little bit! The vocals certainly have some part to play in the massive difference between the two bands; however, to me it seems like shedding down their lineup from 5 members to 3, turning up the volume, the anger, the sheer & unrelenting chaotic hardcore mania to deafening levels had more to do with the transition than anything.

It's too bad Hollow Tongue doesn't have much information about them on the interwebs or elsewhere; I suppose the band wants it this way, otherwise their presence on social media sites would be farther reaching, but goddamnit I want to know more about this incredibly talented and pissed off band.

In all honesty, simply reading the lyrics to their debut full length "Godsnakes" (their most recent release, independently made available through Bandcamp on March 7, 2013), the immediate mental image was that of PIG DESTROYER vocalist J.R. Hayes and his lyrical poetry. Now, being a total Piggy D addict, I cannot claim to perceive Hollow Tongue on EXACTLY the same level musically or lyrically, but I will assert that the New Mexican chaotic hardcore/grind/punk band is one of the most sincerely intense and genuinely angry bunch of musicians I've heard in a long time!

The trio of Joe, Bryan and Gary certainly didn't waste any time between the dissolution of Atlas and the formation of Hollow Tongue; as stated earlier, Atlas' last show was on June 17, 2012, but material had already been recorded under the new moniker & smaller lineup, as evidenced by the fact that the "Hollow Tongue EP", the band's debut effort, came out less than a month later - on July 7, 2012 to be exact. Fans who want to check out the group's earlier material can do so by going to the Bandcamp link below; the EP, an 8-track demo from later in 2012, and an early version of the song "Turmoil" are all available at no cost ("Name Your Own Price"). The new record, "GODSNAKES" is offered at a the absurdly low price of $2 USD, so make sure to support the band and spread the word about their awesomeness.

As a final note to keep in mind, especially if you're into limited edition tapes, is the collaboration between Hollow Tongue and Headfirst Records; from the words of the label:

"Ripping blackened hardcore from Albuquerque, NM. fast, dirty and aggressive through and through. if you dig our last couple of releases this should just about fall right into your wheelhouse if False Light, YAITW and the likes are your kinda jams.

We've teamed up with these guys to bring you their full length recording "Godsnakes" in time for their summer touring.A total of 100 pro duplicated tapes 50 on translucent orange with white imprint and 50 on white with black imprint.

these are housed in a 2 color screenprinted cardstock cover, and come with a free canvas patch and 1" button."

[Those of you who wish to grab up one of the tapes can attempt to do so by going here: bit.ly/1aQdfrq]

...for the remainder of this summer, Hollow Tongue is touring the mid-west and west coast, so if you happen to live in those areas, check their Facebook page and keep your fingers crossed they're coming to your town, because I can't imagine their live show being anything but fucking amazing!!

lyrics

That night you sat me down / my heart was racing
my hands were aching / my thoughts were pacing
I've never felt like this was home cause I've always been alone
Crush in my hopes / leave me in this hole
I don't mind / sink into my mind
look in the mirror / exhale your mind
when you are here / consumed in time
erase my mind
sitting and waiting / breathing my own death
sucked me blind / drain my mind
When you weren't inside of me
