No Class Assassins - Blacked Out

from Sociopathic Mixtape, Vol. 2 by Various Artists

/

about

~"Blacked Out" is the opening track on NO CLASS ASSASSINS' debut EP, entitled "The No Class EP", self-released in 2011. It is perhaps the best example of the band's capabilities as well as the future direction they'll take when it comes to writing a full length.~

***Biography***

You could say NO CLASS ASSASSINS are a Hardcore, Death metal, Rock, Grind, Punk, Oldies, Blues band. But we do not have one set style of music to be labeled by. If you had to label us, we would like to be called METAL. We consider ourselves to be "SURVIVOR MEN". We take the best out of our environment and surroundings by doing the best with the cards we've been dealt. None of us have had years of lessons or much guidance in the music world. Just what we have discovered on our own through a strong persistence and passion to learn and become a well established band in the METAL community. We are "LIFERS" as one wise man has referred to people of our kind & nature. 2009 is when NO CLASS ASSASSINS officially became part of the music scene. We have been played on 101.1 WRIF countless times, college radio stations, www.coreofdestruction.com (out of New Orleans, LA) and have also had the honor to open up and share the stage with such national bands/influences as MISFITS, SUICIDE SILENCE, MUSHROOMHEAD, THROWDOWN, BURY YOUR DEAD, OBITUARY, EYEHATEGOD, GREEN JELLY, VENTANA, FOR TODAY, etc... We also won a slot to perform on the ERNIE BALL BATTLE OF THE BANDS 14 stage @ the 2010 WARPED TOUR alongside national bands WHITECHAPEL, THE CASUALITES, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, BRING ME THE HORIZON, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, ANDREW W.K. and EMMURE... We love talking to our fans and promoting whenever/wherever we can. So smile you fucks, because you will be hearing a lot more of our name in the future.

***Description***

Michigan metal band No Class Assassins new E.P., No Class shows a band raised on old school death metal and hardcore. While other bands either duplicate its influences or attempt to modernize the old school sound to mixed results, No Class Assassins does a good job of fusing the 90s Tampa Death Metal movement with metallic New York Hardcore.

The opening track, “Blacked Out,” is straight out of the Obituary playbook. The groove, molten guitars and concise drumming is here in its brutal glory. Vocalist Jay Shurkley finds his inner Chuck Schuldiner when screeching and the track sounds like it could fit on any 1991 death metal compilation. The stomping “Third Time is Not a Charm” opens with a rolling guitar riff and drum beat before halting in to several simple, but effective breakdowns. Bassist Chris Stotler stands out on this track with several bass solos that recall mid-90s Death.

The next track “John Doe” is continues the brutal onslaught with guitarist Dave Kelsey pulling out riffs from hell on this song. The song is a slow paced monster that trudges along with no signs of slowing down. No Class Assassins wears its influences and better yet knows how to play them.

While some metal fans prefer the modern death metal/hardcore sound, No Class Assassins shows why the old school is fundamental. The band does modify things with several breakdowns which will tide newer metal fans over. Still, the No Class E.P. is a tribute to the vintage underground. This record will make you blow the dust off of your Carcass and Death records, put on a Cannibal Corpse shirt and thrash out over the weekend.
